Jalen Ramsey backs up his big talk with big plays. Now the Jacksonville cornerback can crow about something else.Ramsey was the overwhelming choice as the NFL’s top cornerback by a panel of 10 football writers for The Associated Press. The All-Pro received eight first-place votes in balloting released Friday.“Big talent and a big mouth https://www.jaguarsfanstore.com/Cam-Robinson-Jersey ,” wrote New York-based lead NFL writer Barry Wilner. “Still, the guy can cover, isn’t afraid to hit, and likes to match up with the top receivers.”Marcus Peters of the Los Angeles Rams, last year’s top choice, was second and had the other two first-place votes, followed by Arizona’s Patrick Peterson. After helping the Jaguars reach the AFC championship game before losing to New England last season, Ramsey made headlines with his mouth.First, he ripped Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen as “trash” and called Atlanta’s Matt Ryan overrated in the same interview with GQ magazine . It was released a few days after he was suspended during training camp for screaming obscenities at reporters who were videotaping a post-practice altercation between defensive ends Dante Fowler and Yannick Ngakoue. It wasn’t the only time Ramsey was in the news in August. The third-year pro also dismissed four-time All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski of New England by telling ESPN The Magazine, “I don’t think Gronk is as great as people say he is.”Two weeks into this season, Ramsey said he would hit his grandmother if she were on the opposing team, along with other family members, while discussing his respect for the game. Asked if he really would hit his grandma, he said he “definitely would.”“Ramsey talks a big game Tashaun Gipson Color Rush Jersey , but he backs it up with smart, physical play on the back end of arguably the league’s top defense,” wrote Dennis Waszak, another New York-based AP Football Writer. The Rams acquired Peters in the offseason after he intercepted 19 passes in three seasons with Kansas City. He was suspended for a game late last season by the Chiefs for throwing a penalty flag into the stands. The 25-year-old returned an interception 50 yards for a touchdown in a season-opening win over Oakland. Peters has been battling a calf injury.“He’s tough enough in coverage that he sometimes has to peel off to go pick off his own interceptions,” wrote Tennessee-based AP Football Writer Teresa Walker.Peterson has at least one interception in each of his eight seasons with Arizona. At the moment, it appears he will be a bright spot on a bad team with the Cardinals among three winless clubs. Peterson was second to Peters in a close vote last year.“For sheer talent, Peterson is the best all-around cornerback in the game,” Wilner wrote. “He gets little action in Arizona as the Cardinals struggle to get someone to clamp down the other side of the field.”Minnesota’s Xavier Rhodes was fourth, followed by Casey Hayward of the Los Angeles Chargers. Ramsey teammate A.J. Bouye was sixth, and Detroit’s Darius Slay was seventh.Chris Harris Jr., of Denver was eighth, one spot ahead of former teammate Aqib Talib, who is now with the Rams. Marshon Lattimore of New Orleans, last year’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year after intercepting five passes Dawuane Smoot Jersey , wrapped up the top 10.The rankings:1. Jalen Ramsey, Jacksonville2. Marcus Peters, LA Rams3. Patrick Peterson, Arizona4. Xavier Rhodes, Minnesota5. Casey Hayward, LA Chargers6. A.J. Bouye, Jacksonville7. Darius Slay, Detroit8. Chris Harris Jr., Denver9. Aqib Talib, LA Rams10. Marshon Lattimore, New Orleans___ The Jacksonville Jaguars went out and played to win on defense against the Indianapolis Colts. They were about as bad as they could be on offense to win, but they did — in part because they won the turnover battle (one given to two taken), only allowed Cody Kessler to be sacked three times, and didn’t make very many mistakes. It was an ugly game — the lowest scoring in franchise history — but it was a victory and that’s all that matters. So https://www.jaguarsfanstore.com/Taven-Bryan-Jersey , in honor of the six total points scored yesterday, we’ve got the six players who stood out.1. Cody KesslerHe wasn’t the most impactful player yesterday, but the quarterback has routinely anchored this team this season and yesterday... well, he sort of did but not so much that they lost. Kessler had zero turnovers, converted several third downs (with both his feet and his arm), and extended drives — exactly what he said they need to do to win leading up to the game. Kessler was by no means “good” but at least the staff trusted him to throw, something this team has not done in recent weeks with the quarterback. His 6.25 yards per attempt are mediocre, as is the fact he completed just 10 passes to receivers and tight ends. But his 75 percent completion rate was exactly what the defense needed to stay rested and on top of their game for every Colts drive. If Kessler plays like he did yesterday for the rest of the season, he’ll have earned a spot on the team next year and I think the front office will have the confidence to cut and run with Blake Bortles.2. Jalen RamseyHe didn’t practice all week. He was a game time decision. He played hurt. And he got the job done. Ramsey was thrown at 14 times on Sunday, but he allowed just five receptions for 58 yards and most of those were contested catches or a spectacular catch by the receiver with good coverage. Ramsey nearly picked off Colts quarterback Andrew Luck and made many other fantastic plays all while clearly gutting out an injury. The game-winning tackle was a nice cherry on the top of a very good day, especially considering the guy was obviously beat up.3. Telvin SmithThere’s no getting around the fact that Telvin has dropped off in terms of production and ability this season — especially in pass coverage. That was no more evident than a few weeks ago in the team’s first meeting against the Colts. But yesterday, he looked like the Telvin of old, registering a game-high 12 tackles, one tackle for a loss Myles Jack Color Rush Jersey , and no busted coverage plays as far as I can remember.4. Myles JackLike his counterpart at linebacker, Myles had a monster day. His 10 tackles (0.5 tackles for a loss) was second among all players yesterday and his ability to chase down Eric Ebron in the middle of the field to keep the clock rolling was just as big a play as Ramsey’s hit on Erik Swoope to end the game.5. Ronnie HarrisonIn his first NFL start, Harrison looked every bit the part of a third round rookie early in the game, picking up a taunting penalty that extended a Colts drive. But as the game wore on, Harrison looked very comfortable in his role. In fact, the entire defense looked better and faster. If this keeps up, Barry Church will go from a bubble player for next season to a sure fire free agent and Harrison will look like a steal in the third round.6. Yannick NgakoueWhat can you say about Yannick that hasn’t been said a million times before? He’s a steal of a third round pick, he’s a Pro Bowl caliber pass rusher, he has perfected the swat to get quarterbacks to fumble a split second before attempting a pass — he’s everything you want in a defensive end and then some. He registered his seventh sack of the season on Andrew Luck yesterday and he added a tackle for a loss to the day.BONUS: Dawuane SmootI wanted to stick with my theme of highlighting six players in honor of six points, but Smoot played probably the best game of his NFL career. In addition to a pair of tackles, he had two hits on the quarterback in just 39 defensive snaps. He looked explosive at times coming off the line and if he can build on today in the final four games he’ll be a nice rotational defensive end going into 2019.
